Politicised police cause of total collapse in Sindh pakistan

Sindh in general and Karachi, the bleeding and burning city of lights in particular, are the worst victims of a highly politicised police department that is simply ruined by the high number of out of turn promotions, controversial inductions and unmerited appointments on political considerations and external influences. A glance into the career of Sindh police officials shows that successive governments have their share in ruining the police department, which has now been completely crippled and has failed to respond to the challenges faced by the people of Sindh, both urban and rural. Merit has never been the priority of successive governments in the province thus resulting in the complete dominance of those inducted through political means and those given out of turn promotions. Instead of serving the people the police is serving the interest of its political masters. Several of these officials have now become part of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) and are fast climbing t...

The Man Who Would be King

Despite a vague agenda and a playboy past, Imran Khan may be Pakistan’s next Prime Minister. Stuffed into the driver’s seat of his silver Land Cruiser, Imran Khan, the cricket sensation turned Obama-like embodiment of Pakistan’s hope for change, careens wildly through the Punjab on the road from Mianwali to Islamabad, around livestock and colorful Mack trucks tricked out with trinkets. Khan owns the most recognizable face in Pakistan, but he is going too fast to be noticed by the people filling pickup beds and rickshaws, as he swerves into oncoming traffic and along the shoulder of the road. When darkness falls, two women from the wheat fields appear suddenly in his high beams. Khan finally flinches. He jams the breaks, cuts the wheel, and then squeezes his SUV between them with just inches to spare. He quickly collects himself. “You need good reflexes,” he says, smiling. Khan talks like the man who would be king—not like someone who has spent the last 15 years waging a lonely cand...

Will the real Imran please stand up?

It took him almost sixteen years but Imran Khan finally made a grand political entrance with his spectacular Oct 30 rally in Lahore. Since then he has been pulling in good crowds and establishing himself as a probable game changer — even if not an unquestionable base stealer. Even his harshest critics no longer deny him the status of an unpredictable variable in the near predictable traditional power equation. Go anywhere, urban localities in particular, and you are inevitably asked What do you think about Imran? Does he have a real chance of winning the elections? More than the questions themselves, it’s the askers’ tangible anticipation of getting a positive response that makes one wonder about the Khan phenomenon. If things appear so promising for Imran and his political outfit — yet to become a party in the real sense — why then does he face the threat of proving an unfulfilled promise? Is Imran for real, or is he just a figment of a frustrated people’s desperate imagination?...
